Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects

Founded in 1936, the Memphis College of Art is a professional center of art and design education located within the beautiful 342-acre Overton Park in central Memphis, Tenn. In designing the new entrance to Gibson Hall, the college’s administrative building, Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects wanted to highlight the color red, a signature color for the college. LuciteLux® acrylic was chosen for its translucent properties and its unique look when illuminated.

The art of elegance with LuciteLux®

High-end jewelry brand, Boodles wanted an elegant backdrop for an advertising campaign designed to boost summer sales. They worked with a UK company, Inplas Fabrication, which specialises in the creation of highly individual pieces for the film, TV and retail industries. Designers Antonio Arevalo and Mauricio Elloriaga chose Perspex® (LuciteLux® in the US) for Stealth, their striking chandelier style light installation at London’s 100% Design. The chandelier was made using hundreds of mini Stealth lamps, which were formed using Perspex® Frost (LuciteLux® Frost) in Slate and Stone Grey. Unique lighting by design

Innovative industrial design duo, Florian Lösch and Parkpoom Deerassamee have used their shared talents to create the gambo light – a stunning new concept in ambient lighting. These unique products are made in Germany from Perspex® (LuciteLux® in the US) and combine intricately crafted shapes with cool modern colours in a completely novel way, which means that no fixings are necessary. The lights are powered by a mini halogen lamp at the rear; a key design feature is the interchangeable Perspex® (LuciteLux®) template which allows the user to change the light patterns that emerge.

The Seed Cathedral, Britain’s Pavilion at World Expo 2010

Simply spectacular is how leading UK talent, Thomas Heatherwick’s Seed Cathedral has been described by those visiting this year’s World Expo in Shanghai. The Seed Cathedral is formed from over 60,000 transparent acrylic rods, made by DonChamp from MMA, the base material for LuciteLux®, which was supplied by Lucite International. Each rod encases a unique seed sourced from the world’s largest collection of wild plant seeds. By day the acrylic rods act like fibre optic filaments, drawing on daylight to illuminate the interior. At night, light sources embedded in each rod allow the structure to glow. Visit www.ukshanghaiexpo.com or www.heatherwick.com to find out more.
